We had a 'free day' in Jasper and took bicycles out from the Lodge to explore. The Athabasca river runs trough the town and right by our hotel. It's the most amazing color of light aqua which the photo just couldn't capture. There was a storm yesterday with high winds and rain. Just as we sat down to dinner the power went off in the whole valley. We had a second 'helping' of chips and pretzels and called it dinner.

We drove to Maligne Canyon and Lake as well as Miette Hot Springs today using the GyPSy app. It's a GPS guided audio tour we discovered when we took a road trip a few years ago to the Florida Keys. It's like having a private tour guide with lots of history, explanations of the geology and alerts to pull-offs and side trips we would most likely miss without the instructions. The scenery is so magnificent and expansive it's just too hard to capture with an iPhone camera - or any camera! See my attempts when you click for more pictures.

This amazing view, just steps from our room at the Jasper Park Lodge, greeted us as we strolled along the lake path to dinner. The 5 hour drive here from Kamloops was spectacular with Mount Robson rearing up near the entrance to the park. We didn't get a clear view of the peak due to clouds - hey, we'll have to come back someday.
